XL Couplings
Built longer than our standard couplings to grip more pipe, for pipe alignment problems and thermal movement. Choose Strong Back RC for unstable ground and heavy earth loads.
More coupling on every pipe.
XL Couplings fit the same pipe outside diameters as our standard couplings, with up to nearly three times the length on 4″ pipe. More coupling grips more pipe for greater holding power where pipe alignment or thermal movement is a concern.

Pipe alignment problems
Extra length for connections where pipe alignment is a problem.
Thermal expansion
More coupling on each pipe to protect the joint as pipe expands and contracts.
More holding power
The extra length grips more pipe. The 6″ to 12″ sizes add clamp bands.
Standard pipe sizes
Fits the same pipe outside diameters as our standard couplings, 1½″ to 12″.
Non-shielded or Strong Back RC shielded.
Non-shielded
The extra-long flexible coupling with 300 series stainless steel clamps, tightened to 60 in-lb. For pipe alignment problems and thermal expansion and contraction.
Strong Back RC shielded
Adds a .012″ thick, 300 series stainless steel shear ring over the coupling to secure pipe from unstable ground and structures and to resist heavy earth loads. XL Strong Back RC couplings come with two more clamp bands than a standard Strong Back RC coupling, for greater holding power. Part numbers end in RC.
About Strong Back RC ›Built to hold under load.
Buried couplings can face earth loads, settlement and shear. Where they do, the Strong Back RC shear ring wraps the coupling and helps keep the joint rigid and in line.
Conditions vary by region and job. Always follow the project specifications and your local codes and regulations when choosing a coupling.

Find your size.
XL Couplings fit the same pipe outside diameters as the matching standard and Strong Back RC couplings. Measure both pipes, find the range that covers them, then pick non-shielded or Strong Back RC. No calipers? Wrap a tape around the pipe and divide by 3.14.
