Toilet flange repair

Fix-A-Flange

Fix a broken toilet flange without replacing it. The steel horseshoe goes under or over the broken bolt slot and screws to the floor, so the toilet bolt holds again.

Stop the rock.

A broken bolt slot can’t hold a toilet. Fix-A-Flange gives the bolt something solid to hold, to stop wobbly and leaky toilets without tearing out the flange.

Keep the flange. Repair the broken slot instead of cutting out and replacing the closet flange.

Six steps

  1. Pull the toiletShut off the water, flush, empty the bowl and tank, disconnect the supply and unbolt the toilet.
  2. Bolt the horseshoePut a toilet bolt through the center hole and lock it with a plastic locking washer.
  3. Place the horseshoeUnder: remove the flange screws and slide the horseshoe under the broken flange. Over: set it on top.
  4. Line up the boltsKeep the bolts centered on the flange and square to the wall.
  5. Screw it downDrill 3/16″ holes through the flange into the floor if needed, then screw the horseshoe to the floor.
  6. Reset the toiletInstall a new toilet seal, reset and secure the toilet, turn the water on and flush to check for leaks.

Going on top? Measure the horseshoe height against the recess under the toilet first. If the horseshoe sits higher, shim the toilet.

Resetting the toilet?

Skip the wax.

Every reset needs a new toilet seal. Fernco Wax-Free Toilet Seals stick to the toilet and seal inside the drain pipe. No scraping, no mess, and floors up to ¾″ above the flange are covered.

  • Seals in the pipe, not on the flange
  • Reset the same toilet with the same seal

Common questions

PSF-100 or PSF-100-2KIT?

One broken slot and your own screws and bolts? The PSF-100 single horseshoe. Both sides, or want everything in one box? The PSF-100-2KIT Fix-A-Flange Complete has two horseshoes, 4 wood or concrete screws, 2 toilet bolts with nuts and the washers.

Should it go under or over the flange?

Under the flange if you can. Remove the flange screws and slide it under. If it won’t go under, set it on top and check that the toilet still sits flat.

Will it work on a concrete floor?

Yes. Fix-A-Flange Complete (PSF-100-2KIT) includes screws for wood or concrete. With the PSF-100 single, use screws made for your floor.

The toilet rocks after I put it on top. Now what?

The horseshoe is sitting higher than the recess under the toilet. Shim the toilet between its base and the floor, or move the horseshoe under the flange.

Do I need a new toilet seal?

Yes. Install a new seal whenever the toilet comes up. A Fernco Wax-Free Toilet Seal is one option.
